Though larger deals were on the table (apparently), J.R. Smith decided to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer, taking another shot at what would be his first NBA championship.
Tonight, Smith was a participant in the Cavs’ Wine & Gold Scrimmage at Quicken Loans Arena. The team entertained some of its biggest fans, as well as one young Golden State Warriors fan, who was set to receive a pair of Smith’s sneakers post-scrimmage. But there was a condition — he had to ditch his Warriors t-shirt. And as you can see in the video below, little man stuck to his guns, opting to represent the champs over the team they defeated this past June. Unfortunately for him, Smith also stuck to his guns and found a youngster wearing a Cavs shirt to gift the LeBron 12 low-tops to instead. That’s an elite level of hate hard.
It’s not clear whether or not Smith ever buckled and hooked the kid up with some swag, but either way, the Warriors need to track him down and reward him for his loyalty in enemy territory.
