It’s official — the Air Jordan XII hype is very real.
After ‘heads lined up in droves for “The Master” XIIs late last month, the buzz picked back up over the weekend with the release of the girl’s “Vivid Pink” Retro XII colorway. According to Detroit Free Press, one mall had to completely shut down not once, but twice to contain the madness of the release.
Upon opening at 8 a.m., unruly crowds at Detroit’s Eastland Center burst through a gate and caused the mall to be shut down immediately. Once it seemed like things had calmed down a few hours later, the mall attempted to re-open at 10 a.m., only to be closed once again.
“Both times, it was shut down by the police for public safety… all over a tennis shoe,” the mall’s general manager said.
In the end, the frenzy caused the mall’s Kid’s Foot Locker to cancel its release altogether. A handful of other stores in the mall, including Kay Jewelers, chose to not open at all on Saturday.
